His professional background also includes experience with a civil defense law firm and the Public Corruption & Economic Crime Unit of the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.

His work has resulted in significant recoveries for injured clients, including a $1.7 million truck accident settlement, a $1.1 million recovery for a dog attack victim, an $850,000 recovery in a slip-and-fall case, and a $310,000 recovery arising from an insurance coverage dispute involving a collapsed equestrian arena. His additional results include a $275,000 truck accident recovery, a $125,000 rear-end collision settlement, and a $100,000 motorcycle accident recovery.
His experience on different sides of the legal system provides him with a broad perspective when evaluating liability, developing case strategy, and advocating for injured clients.
Appellate Experience
In addition to his personal injury practice, Attorney Montgomery has significant appellate experience and has assisted with successful appeals before both the Tennessee Court of Appeals and Tennessee Supreme Court.
In April 2020, he argued before the Tennessee Supreme Court in the first remote oral argument in the Court’s history. His written briefing and oral advocacy contributed to a successful appeal for his client and notable developments in Tennessee law.

Attorney James Vance Montgomery earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2016. His law school peers selected him to deliver the commencement address for the Class of 2016, where he spoke about selflessness and responsibility to the community—principles that continue to influence his approach to legal practice.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Tennessee in 2012.
