Charges Dismissed, Reduced and No Probation
August 22, 2018
- Speeding 71 in a 45
- Attempting to Elude a Police Officer
- Cobb County State Court
COBB COUNTY – FREDERICK MANN of the LAW OFFICES OF MATTHEW C. HINES, LLC successfully resolved another case this morning.
The client, an exchange student from Central America attending Georgia State University under a student visa, had been charged with:
- Speeding 71 in a 45 MPH zone and
- Attempting to Elude a police officer, on the first day he was issued his Georgia driver license.
The second charge (eluding a police officer) carries a 10 day mandatory jail term upon conviction. The officer had alleged the defendant would not stop for him for 5 minutes while his blue lights and siren were activated, while the defendant thought the officer must have been pursuing someone else entirely.
The plea negotiated saw the second count dismissed by the State.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket only, and received a fine (no probation) totaling $273 including court costs.
